Design Sponge

So I just discovered the awesome "Living In" column at www.designspongeonline.com.  Writer Amy Merrick (who also has a really gorgeous blog of her own) posts products inspired by her favorite movies and books.  She has some absolutely fabulous things on the website.  I had fun browsing through the posts and remembering some of my very favorite movies.  Here are the ones I was particularly fond of:

Something's Gotta Give (Diane Keaton's Hampton estate is hands down my favorite house in a movie...ever...my mom's too...we're kind of obsessed with it actually)
Sleepless in Seattle (so classic)
Sense and Sensibility (i kind of adore Alan Rickman in this)
Sixteen Candles (she even posted an awesome pair of plaid panties)
Fried Green Tomatoes (i just saw this movie for the first time a few weeks ago and totally loved it)
Jaws (this movie might be the reason that this SoCal girl did not spend much time at the beach as a child...it caused my mother to be terrified of sharks...even if they look completely fake)
The Breakfast Club (love, love, love this movie)
Pride and Prejudice (the Kiera Knightly version...which happens to be my favorite version...despite being a Jane Austen devotee I just can't sit through the six-hour Colin Firth version...and the cinematography in this one is GORGEOUS)
A League of Their Own (i always cry at the end of this movie despite Tom Hanks' admonition: "there's no crying in baseball!!")
The Red Shoes (does anyone else remember this movie? my friend Jessie and I LOVED it when we were kids and aspiring dancers...ok Jessie actually was a dancer...i was the aspiring one)
A Christmas Story (and yes...she did post a leg lamp...epic win)
Romeo and Juliet (the Baz Luhrmann version that I adore...I know it's a strange movie but I can't help loving it.  my friend Karen and I used to watch it and just fawn over Leo)
National Velvet (my mom's favorite movie of all time)
Dirty Dancing (nobody puts baby in a corner)
The Parent Trap (let's get together, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Big (she even found a Zoltar machine!)

Ok, so I might have gotten carried away with my list of favorites.  I'm sort of indecisive and I couldn't choose just one or two...or four or five for that matter.  There was just too much fun stuff!  But head on over to Design Sponge for yourself and happy browsing!  I think I'll go watch a movie and fantasize about decorating my dream house someday.

Fashion Blogs

I am a total and complete blog addict.  I haven't counted how many blogs are on my blog reader and if I did I would probably be embarrassed to tell you how many there are.  Or maybe I wouldn't...I'm not really sure what is a reasonable amount of blogs to follow.  But anywho...a couple of posts ago I mentioned something about fashion blogs and for anyone out there interested in reading them I wanted to post some of my favorites.  I discovered Elaine at "I'm clothed much" a few weeks ago and she has a list on her blog of Mormon Fashion Bloggers.  There are a ton of great modest fashion blogs on that list but here are a few of my favorites:

The Sisters Four Say More is More: They've got tons of great DIY fashion tutorials
The Daybook: Can I just tell you how freakin cute Sydney is?  And she lives in Idaho?!  Who knew anything so stylish could come out of Idaho (no offense intended to all those Idhoans out there.  I'm the product of an Idaho potato farmer so I feel justified in making derogatory Idaho comments.  They are my people after all).
Totally Tessa: Totally adorable high school girl from Oregon with the best style.  Also check out her mom's blog: Your Homebased Mom -- tons of great recipes!!
Kristin. Or Polly.: She rocks some of the sweetest, unexpected outfit combinations.

These are some of my favorites not on that list:
busy bee lauren: One of my new favorites.  She's an LDS girl in Arizona who takes great pictures and really knows how to rock red lipstick.
The Sartorialist: I've talked about this blog before but it definitely deserves another mention.  It's an incredibly popular fashion blog and it got a sweet mention on Glee the other night.
The Man Repeller: Seriously hysterical blog!  It's all about fashions that women love and men hate.
Kendi Everyday: Great photos and great fashion.
Ruby Woo Loves You: Named after blog author Tierney's favorite color of MAC lipstick.  I love this one because Tierney loves anything and everything nautical and so do I!

Have fun checking out all these fun blogs and let me know if you have any favorite fashion blogs!  I always love reading new things!

Oh and p.s. I know I'm way late getting on this train (seeing as this blog has 7000+ followers) but I'm super into the Rockstar Diaries right now too.  Can we just talk about what a fab life Taza and her husband have!  Don't even get me started about how much I love Kingsley and their new baby is so precious!

Fashion

My incredibly fashionable friend Alex had a a link to The Sartorialist on her blog a couple weeks ago. So I clicked on the link and fell in love with this website. Scott Schuman worked in the fashion industry for years and now on his blog he posts gorgeous pictures, mostly of stylish people he meets on the street. He says on his blog, "When I worked in the fashion industry (15 years), I always felt that there was a disconnect between what I was selling in the showroom and what I was seeing real people (really cool people) wearing in real life." I'm getting totally inspired by the beautiful and confident women (and men for that matter) he posts pictures of.

This girl has been my favorite so far. Isn't she fabulous?

And since it's Fall fashion show time he's also been posting amazing pictures from all the runway shows. I'm in love with these clothes from Jonathan Saunders. The colors are fantastic!

Check me out on Dooce!

Over the summer I discovered Dooce which is apparently the most popular blog on the internet. Dooce author, Heather Armstrong is incredibly funny and witty. I will warn you that she can be slightly vulgar at times so you have to be cautious when reading her site. However, she is also very honest and insightful in her writing.

A few weeks ago I was reading some of her archives and I found a post that talked about her appearing on the Today Show over the summer. And in case anyone forgot...I was at the Today Show over the summer! So I start scrolling through her pictures and I see this one of Kathie Lee wearing a dress that I totally remember her wearing. And I say to myself, "I think I was in the greenroom that day! What a coincidence! I probably saw Heather without knowing who she was!" So then I scroll down a couple more pictures and guess who is standing in the background of one of her photos?!? Ummm....could it be me?!!? Oh yeah! It was! Click here and scan down to the 6th photo and you might recognize someone in a red jacket. I know you can't see my face but I was still pretty excited. It's just kind of crazy seeing yourself on someone's website that you've never even met before. And back when that picture was taken I had never even heard of Dooce and now I read it almost everyday!

But anywho...the other pictures are kind of cool too because you can see the fabulous Today Show greenroom. I don't think I have any of my own pictures from there because the interns weren't really supposed to take pictures. It was fun for me to see these pics too because I recognize a lot of the people in the background. Ohhhh how I miss 30 Rock...those were the days.

Blogs Rock My World

I have a confession to make....in the last week I have become completely, and utterly addicted to blogs. Well, mostly just one blog...

My roommate, Anne, introduced me to a blog that is written by a friend of a friend and we are both totally addicted. I mean, I could spend days reading this girl's blog because she is so dang funny (Anne and I have this secret desire to be her best friend and model our lives after her's...which I guess isn't so secret anymore). My future best friend's name is Allison and her blog is She Blogs, She Blogs.

I knew Allison and I were meant to be when I read her post about Diet Cola -- for anyone who knows me, you will understand after reading this post why Allison and I are indeed best-friend soul-mates.

Alas, in my quest to be just like Allison I've decided I need to start blogging again -- because that is what all ultra-chic girls do. My blog will never be as cool as Allison's but at least it can serve as a creative outlet in my quest to reach my full ab-fab potential sometime in the next decade.

Hopefully someday, someone besides my mom and my grandma will read it....one can only hope.

P.S. To Allison if you ever read this -- I promise I'm not some weirdo, creepy girl. I do have friends who love me despite all of my eccentricities. But your blog speaks to me in a way that no blog ever has or ever will and because of that I find it necessary to publicly declare my love for you and your blogging ways. Live long and blog.
